Can Halys Repeat His Gstaad Win Over Bublik?

Alexander Bublik faces Quentin Halys in the Kitzbuhel ATP final on 25 July, with the clay-court title decided over the best of three sets.

The market strongly favours Bublik. Yet Halys has the better clay record, has won four straight matches at this event and beat Bublik in three sets only 10 days earlier.

Halys holds the early rivalry edge

Halys won their only previous meeting, beating Bublik in three sets on clay at Gstaad on 15 July. Two tie-breaks and 36 games showed how close it was, but Halys held every service game and created seven break chances to Bublik's two.

Halys has built the stronger clay record this season at 12-7, compared with Bublik's 8-7. He has also held in 86% of service games and won 21% on return, small advantages that could matter when only a few pressure points separate the finalists.

Bookmakers price Bublik at 1.44 against Halys at 2.75, a much stronger lean than the clay results alone would suggest. Bublik is also favoured in the opening set at 1.57, with Halys offered at 2.38.

Bublik's clearest route is to shorten points behind a serve that has produced 15.7 aces per match across his last 10 outings. Halys has the better clay return numbers and has already shown that he can stay with Bublik through tight sets.
